這美好的一切,起源於義大利。麥特‧湯姆笙前往北義大利參與1994年份的釀酒工作,也就是在義大利,麥特與大衛‧葛利夫相遇。大衛是倫敦的高級紅酒進口商。在數年來於義大利往來各個酒莊的長途車程中,麥特與大衛鉅細靡遺的討論了在紐西蘭馬爾堡所栽植出黑皮諾的潛力。於是麥特在2000年的時候在馬爾堡找到了一塊他心目中最適宜滋養高品質黑皮諾的寶地。釀酒師麥特自1993年在馬爾堡釀酒,同時是Saint Clair、Mudhouse、Lake Chalice、Cape Campbell這些競賽常勝軍酒莊的釀酒顧問,並在義大利釀酒。大衛於1986年取得葡萄酒大師MW認證,現為英國最成功葡萄酒進口商Liberty Wines總經理,是少數願意承擔風險引進頂級義大利葡萄酒的酒商,正是這股堅持高品質的精神,驅使他投入建立馬爾堡黑皮諾的高品質形象。德達酒莊的特色在於特選海特丘黑皮諾種植在海拔170公尺的黏土地,而所有的黑皮諾採用開頂式發酵酒槽,降低酒精含量。少量使用全新橡木桶,且木桶僅輕度烘培,以保留或提升原本細緻動人的葡萄品種特色。一改世人對新世界酒款過於濃重的印象。


It all started in Italy. Matt Thomson arrived in northern Italy in 1994 to work vintage. It was in Italy that he met David Gleave MW, a London-based wine importer. During the many long car journeys between wineries in Italy, Matt and David discussed at length the potential for Pinot Noir in Marlborough. When Matt found a site in 2000 that he felt was ideally suited to the production of top quality Pinot Noir. Matt has been making wine in Marlborough since 1993. He is consultant winemaker to wineries: Saint Clair, Mudhouse, Lake Chalice, and Cape Campbell, whose wines have consistently won awards and trophies recently. Matt also makes wine in Italy. David became a Master of Wine in 1986. Today he is managing director of Liberty Wines, one of the U.K.’s most dynamic importers and distributors.
